Summer Fun at HOA Library; May 30, 2023

Summer break brings back many happy memories for me. This is when I would go and spend time with my Grandparents on the Farm or my Grandpa in Carrington. On the farm we’d help Grandma with her chores and we’d take lunch to Grandpa out in the field. We’d ride bike around the driveway and pretend we were in a big city on our way to work. In Carrington we’d ride bike to Vacation Bible School at Grace Lutheran Church in the morning and go swimming all afternoon at the pool. In between all the fun and adventures with our Grandparents and family, we’d always have a book to read. At the farm we’d read in the haystack with the new puppies. In Carrington we’d read before bed. I hope you have some nice summer memories that you can reflect on as we go into summer. Come to the library and check out your summer reading material.

A children’s fiction book about summer fun bike riding we have Summer Wheels by Eve Bunting. It is a story about the Bicycle Man who fixes up old bicycles and offers both his friendship and the use of the bikes to the neighborhood kids for free. He has just two rules: “Have it back by four” and “If it breaks while you have it, you fix it.”

Our junior fiction readers can consider Summer According to Humphrey by Betty G. Birney. A brief description, “When Humphrey hears that school is ending, he can’t believe his ears. What’s a classroom hamster to do if there’s no more school? It turns out that Mrs. Brisbane has planned something thrilling for Humphrey and Og the frog: they’re going to camp with Ms. Mac and lots of the kids from Room 26.”

Adult readers looking for a little summer getaway with The Summer Getaway by Susan Mallery. A brief description, “With her divorce settlement about to run out and a mortgage she can’t afford, Robyn Caldwell needs a plan for her future. She nurtured her family and neglected herself. But how’s she supposed to think when her daughter has become the most demanding bride ever, her son won’t even consider college, her best friend is on the brink of marital disaster and her ex is making a monumentally bad decision that could bring everything crashing down on Robyn’s head? So when her great-aunt Lillian invites her to Santa Barbara for the summer, Robyn hop on the first plane. But it’s hard to run away whenyou’re the heart of the family.”
