Summer Reading Ideas, June 5, 2023

We have some new books in for our adult readers; stop in and check one out today!

What happens when we are brave enough to speak our truths to the ones we love the most? Honey, Baby, Mine by Laura Dern and Diane Ladd shares how to do just that. A brief description, “…when Diane developed a sudden life-threatening illness and the stakes were high, they got to know each other in ways they never imagined. Diane’s doctor prescribed long walks to build back her lung capacity. The exertion was challenging and Laura soon learned the best way to distract her mom was to get her talking and telling stories, ‘as if in a Santa Monica version of The Arabian Nights.'” Their meandering walks soon became epic ones, and their conversations along the way began to break down the barriers that traditionally exist between mothers and daughters.”

We have a book written by ND author, Crystal (CD) Grenier called Crystalize your Health, Thriving Through Chronic Illness. A brief description reads, “Chronic illness doesn’t have to be a life sentence. You can live a life of abundance, reclaim your health, and restore your vitality, regardless of any medical diagnosis. But you will need to take your health into your own hands. What works for one may not work for another. This book offers actionable advice from a range of individuals living with a serious medical condition through heartfelt conversations.”

They Call Her Dirty Sally by Amy Matayo is new book to our collection. A brief description reads, “For years, the town of Silver Bell, Arkansas has quietly mourned the hospital fire that claimed the lives of nine of its residents – the town doctor, a young expectant mother, and seven infants. So, when journalist, Finn Hardwick, is assigned the story as part of a national thirtieth anniversary memorial service, he arrives at the town prepared to interview its residents, thinking they’ll be ready to share and eager to make headlines. He isn’t prepared for the resistance. Or for what appears to be a collective unwillingness to answer his questions.”
