September is here! Heart of America Library is happy to see the school kids again, we’re excited about football games, and of course the fall weather. We’re busy planning events for our kids and community for the fall. Please let us know if there is anything you’d like to see offered at Heart of America Library; we are open to suggestions.
First up we are offering a T(w)eens Read Challenge which will run from September 1, 2023 to March 1, 2024. This is a challenge that the ND State Library developed for public libraries to use for their readers age 10 – 19. There are 10 categories chosen by the NDSL and we’re asking tweens to read a book from 8 of the categories. It is their choice which categories they want to read from. Once their books are read, we ask that they bring the completed log sheet to Heart of America Library. We’ll then enter their name into a drawing for $100 in Rugby Bucks. We’ll draw the winner in March 2024. The categories and log sheet are attached below. Feel free to print them off at home for your t(w)een’s use.

Heart of America Library will be participating in the Wine Walk on September 21. We’ll showcase books related to food and wine. We will also have a drawing for a book bundle which will have the No. 1 Bestselling Wine Guide Hugh Johnson’s Pocket Wine Book 2023 edited by Margaret Rand and The Bottle: A Wine Story by F. Pericoli.
Heart of America Library has requested a trunk from the ND Studies Trunk Program through the ND State Historical Society. Our first trunk will be Early People about American Indians of North Dakota. We are scheduled to have the trunk on or near September 15. The community is welcome to come and check it out. We extend a special invite to our school age kids who are studying ND history. Our goal with bringing in these trunks is to give a hands on experience into the history of ND for our community and children.
We have invited ND Navigators and Senior Medicare Patrol to Heart of America Library on Thursday, October 12 to share a Health Insurance 101 presentation. The folks with ND Navigators are certified to help people with general health insurance and Health Insurance Marketplace questions along with Medicaid and Medicaid Expansion questions. The Senior Medicare Patrol folks are certified to help with Medicare and Medicare fraud questions and awareness. Please join us on October 12 at 1:30. They will be available to answer your questions after the presentation.
The United States will experience an Annular Eclipse on Saturday, October 14. In Rugby we’ll experience about 50% coverage. Your Heart of America Library is planning some activities for the community to celebrate this experience. We’ll share more information soon.
Thank you and See you soon!
