Today I am finding the metaphor time is a thief to be so very true. November is near the end and December is knocking on the door. Your Heart of America Library is experiencing this disappearance of time, just as many of you are. How can it be that we were just handing out Halloween treat bags at the Jaycee’s Trunk or Treat last week and then yesterday we were hosting Mrs. Claus (Thank you, Sue!) for the Jaycee’s Grinchmas? It is time to take a moment to slow down and enjoy this next month of December with family and friends; fully embrace the season of giving.
Speaking of the season of giving, our 39th Annual Mitten Tree is set up at Your Heart of America Library. We are accepting donations of new or gently used mittens, gloves, hats, and/or scarves. These winter items will be distributed to area schools to help out the kiddos who need winter gear. Thank you for your generosity!
This week at Your Heart of America Library we have Becky Hershey coming on Wednesday, November 29 at 2pm to have A Hospice Conversation. Becky is the Hospice Director at Heart of America Medical Center here in Rugby. She is a fountain of knowledge about Hospice and end of life cares. Join us in learning about Hospice and ask questions about this wonderful program.
Our Book Discussion will meet on Tuesday, December 5 at 10am. We are discussing A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith. We have copies of the book and questions here at the library; get your copy today!
ND Job Service Outreach will be here on Wednesday, December 6 from 10am – 12:30pm. They are available for those who are seeking a job along with those who are looking to fill a position.
The Heart of America Library Board of Trustees will meet on Monday, December 11 at 9am. The public is welcome to attend.
We have started a Caregiver Support Group at Heart of America Library. We meet the 3rd Thursday of each month at 7pm in the West Room of the library. Being a caregiver to a loved one can be difficult and it is nice to know that there are people around that are in the same situation and maybe our caregivers can help each other through the process. We’ll bring in community members from area organizations to share information about potentially available programs in our area that will help our caregivers. Everyone is welcome.
We will host Story Hour the first 3 Fridays in December. Story Hour meets from 10:15 – 11:15am in the Miss Marlys Room at Heart of America Library. We enjoy seeing our preschool kiddos and parents every week! We couldn’t offer this without our wonderful volunteer helpers who come each week to help with the activities. We have decided to not have Story hour on Friday, December 22 & 29 so families can spend time together during the holiday season. You can always stop by the library and check out some great children’s books to read at home.
Has your tweenager been reading for the T(w)eens Read Challenge? This challenge will go until March 1, 2024. The winner of the drawing will get $100 in Rugby Bucks!
We know we can’t stop time from ticking away, but maybe we can help you slow it down a moment to enjoy the newspaper or a book. We are here for You, Our Community, Our Patrons, at the Heart of America Library.
