February 2024 – Library News

February has many opportunities for you at the Heart of America Library. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Our February adventure idea is to make hearts in the snow. Thankfully Mother Nature is going to make this idea possible, if the weather forecast is correct!

We encourage you to read a book about love or Valentine’s Day or sharing or kindness. Then share a little of the ‘love’ with a neighbor, friend, family, loved one by making a heart in the snow.

Share what you’ve created to the Heart of America Library Facebook page. We want to see how far the love goes!

Story Hour every Friday in February! Story Hour is offered twice per month by the RPS Literacy Committee and twice per month by Heart of America Library staff.

Pick up the next book for the March Book Discussion. We’re reading Rules of Civility by Amor Towles.

We currently have an interactive traveling trunk from the Smithsonian called Extra and Ordinary: Overlooked Stories of Extraordinary Women. You can immerse yourself in the stories of 20 little-known women across U.S. history using recreated museum objects. Some of the women include Mary Edwards Walker, Senda Berenson Abbott, Jacqueline Cochran, and Lucille St. Hoynie.

The trunk items will be on display until February 16th. We invite everyone to check it out and don’t forget your mobile device for scanning the QR codes.

Tuesday, February 27 at 2pm we have Shannon Amyotte from Heart of America Medical Center coming to the library to share information about Advanced Directives. Shannon will explain what advanced directives are. She’ll discuss why a person may want to have an advanced directive in place. She will share ways to have those uncomfortable discussions with your loved ones.

Don’t forget about our T(w)eens Read Challenge going from now until March 1, 2024. One month left to get your lists turned in and have your name entered into the drawing for $100 in Rugby Bucks.

Our next board meeting is on Monday, March 11 at 9 a.m. The public is welcome to attend.

Thank you! Enjoy your February.
