Hello! Today is Thursday, June 6 and I feel like I am behind in updating the website. We’ve been busy at the HOA Library the past few months and we’re ready for a little break this summer. Don’t get me wrong, we’re still bringing you great events, but we’re going for quality not quantity.
A little recap of the blood drive in May. We filled all spots and had 6 walk-in donations. They exceeded what they had originally planned for and had to turn away donors. Bravo Rugby! Thank you for your life giving blood donations. We’ll plan for another blood drive in the fall.
The RHS Art students are finished with their murals in the Miss Marlys story hour room. They did a wonderful job. It is so fun hearing the reactions of the youngsters who come to the library and see the change. The library wants to be a place for people to make their mark, in this case the students literally made their mark. We’ve enjoyed seeing the students bring their family and friends to check out their work. They should be proud and we are proud of them. Stop in and see the creativity they shared with us.
Lake Region District Health Unit offered a Babysitting Course here at the library May 30 & 31. Rugby has 8 CPR certified babysitters. The next class will be June 13 & 14. The class is full, but they have started a waiting list. Hopefully we can offer another class again soon. Watch for updates.
June 21 we will have Story Hour with the RPS Literacy Committee ladies. Make plans to bring your littles to the library for stories and crafts.
Heart of America Library is hosting the Great Reads from Great Places Tour on Tuesday, July 16 at 1pm. We will have Sarah Vogel, author and former ND Ag Commissioner here to read from her book The Farmer’s Lawyer and have discussion about her book and experiences. Ashley will have Sarah’s book available for purchase at Main Street Boutique so you can have your book signed by Sarah when she’s here. We appreciate being chosen by the ND State Library for this opportunity. We’ll have coffee, water, and cookies for you, too 🙂
Adventure Begins at Your Library is the theme for Summer Reading this year. We have scheduled July 22 – 26 as the week for adventure here at HOA Library. We’ll have sign-ups available starting at the end of June so we can plan for how many kiddos will be here. Summer Reading is open to students in Kindergarten to 6th grade. We’ll have reading challenges, games, activities, crafts, and so much more adventure for you!
August will bring We All Read for Ice Cream where we’ve partnered with Baldy’s Pizza. Everyone (all ages) is welcome to participate. We’ll ask that you read 15 library books and you’ll get a token for a FREE ice cream cone from Baldy’s.
We’ll have a school supply drive again in August. Watch for more information.
Please share your ideas for your library with us. We want to make this your place to go for books, community, and comfort. Email Mandie at heartofamerica@hotmail.com.
