Well, October came and went and we didn’t get an update out to our community. We are sorry! Welcome to November and an update on HOA Library happenings.
Your Heart of America Library is once again offering Food for Fines. This year we are doing something a little bit different. We are asking for donations to the Rugby Public School Backpack Buddies Program. RPS is working to start Backpack Buddies which is a program that gives students in need or who may not otherwise have, food for extended breaks or weekends. The goal is to anonymously provide food that is easily made by all ages with possible use of a microwave, to include a few breakfast, meal, and snack options per bag for a student. If you have a library fine, we ask that you donate a food item to this new program. Items include oatmeal packets, cereal, peanut butter, crackers, granola bars, mac and cheese or noodle cups, instant rice packets, fruit cups, applesauce cups, canned goods with easy open lids, jerky, tuna or chicken packets. Heart of America Library has been selected to host the Americans and the Holocaust traveling exhibit. The exhibit will be here January 11 to February 22, 2025. The exhibit challenges people to not only ask ‘what would I have done?‘ but also ‘what will I do?‘ We have scheduled several great speakers to come to the HOA Library to share information about the American response to the Holocaust. We will have the opportunity to look at information to hopefully answer the following questions: What did Americans know? Did Americans help Jewish refugees? Why did Americans go to war? How did Americans respond?
We look forward to seeing you at HOA Library soon! Check out the ‘new’ children’s area with updated shelving, table, chairs, and a rug. Check out our new bird watching kits and explore the avian world around us. Read the local newspaper and get caught up on current events. Reserve our downstairs meeting room complete with updated tables and chairs. Come to story hour every Friday. We have so much available for you…we’re way more than books!
