Greetings from Your Heart of America Library!
It has been several months since we posted a Library News. Partly because we’ve been collecting ourselves after the Americans and the Holocaust exhibit, we were down one person for about six weeks due to injury, planning summer reading opportunities, and more. Finally, there’s a little time to sit down and reflect on the past several months.
We have been working to bring some great reading materials to the HOA Library. Through tax dollars and donations we are able to keep our collection and program offerings current and relevant to our community. We are thankful for our community and all of our generous donors. You make our HOA Library the fabulous place that it is.
We have a great Back to School Book Sale happening now. All books are free will donation and the proceeds go to the 3rd Annual School Supply Drive.
We have enjoyed having your students throughout the summer. Starting with Read for a Wristband, we saw 109 students participate and earn a ride wristband for the Pierce County Fair. These 109 students read a total of 2,407 books. Some students also decided to read additional books to earn ice cream treats and free books. We could not have done this without our amazing sponsors: Rugby Jaycees who sponsored the wristbands, Rugby Dairy Queen and Rockin’ Relics who sponsored ice cream treats, and the HOA Library who sponsored the free books.
We are working on Color Our World right now. Local artists are coming to the library to do an art project with the students. We have met twice and have three more scheduled, July 25, 29, & 31. We are thankful for Svetlana Leer, Julia Petrovic, Anna Bogar, Marilyn Niewohner, and Maureen Fritel for helping us make this possible.
Next up is We All Read for Ice Cream throughout the month of August. Everyone can read 15 library books and will get to choose an ice cream treat from Baldy’s Pizza, Dairy Queen, or Rockin’ Relics. Yes, mom and dad, you can participate, too!

August also brings us our 3rd Annual School Supply Drive. Please help us help our students succeed. You can drop off donations at the library during normal business hours August 1-15.
Friday, August 15 you are welcome to join us for a Back to School Party with Amma Mamma. We will have music, craft, books, and a snack. Join us at 10:15 for a fun time with Amma Mamma!
Heart of America Library is also looking toward the future. We are planning to offer an exhibit from the Smithsonian called Why We Serve: Native Americans in the United States Armed Forces. Why We Serve is organized by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service in collaboration with the National Museum of the American Indian. This is an incredible opportunity and we look forward to bringing you some amazing speakers and learning during the exhibit period. Stay tuned for more information on this moving exhibit.
Thank you for reading the Library News. Let us know what you are looking for in YOUR library.
