May 2024 – Library News

Today is Tuesday, May 7, 2024. While typing this Library News post, this writer is also watching the 2024 Days of Remembrance Commemoration being held at our United States Capital. Heart of America Library announced in March 2024 that we have been selected as a host site for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum traveling exhibit called Americans and the Holocaust. We will host the exhibit January 11, 2025 to February 22, 2025.

Unfortunately we are witnessing this devastating past being repeated in our very real present in Israel and across our nation on college campuses. It is so important to share this part of our past so our students can have an opportunity to see what happened less than 100 years ago in our world. We will have several educational opportunities before and during the exhibit for our communities. Please continue to watch our website, our Facebook page, and stop in at the library to find out what we have planned. We look forward to learning and sharing this exhibit with you. If you or your organization want to be part of the teaching, please let me know and we can discuss options.

We say thank you to Little Flower School for visiting us throughout the school year. We’ve enjoyed seeing each of you twice a month during the 2023 – 2024 school year. We hope you’ve learned a little more about what the library has to offer. We look forward to seeing you again next year!

We invite you to check out the work our Rugby High School art class and their teacher, Mr. Skipper have been working on in the Miss Marlys room downstairs. They are adding some creative murals to the bare walls. While not complete yet, it is coming along nicely and is adding some much needed personality to the room we use for story hour, summer reading, and school visits.

We start our Read for a Wristband promotion with the Pierce County Fair and Rugby Jaycee’s. Please let us know if you have any questions about the challenge and don’t forget to thank a Jaycee’s member for this opportunity!

We are hosting a blood drive on May 31. Please sign up with the QR code. Thank you for your generous life giving gift!

We are currently planning some Safe Sitter classes with our public health nurse. Watch for more information on that to be posted soon!

Heart of America Library has been chosen as a location for the ND State Library Great Reads from Great Places tour. We will host Sarah Vogel, author and former ND Ag Commissioner on Tuesday, July 16 at 1 p.m. Main Street Boutique will also have books available for sale that day. Please join us in welcoming Sarah Vogel.

We hope to see you all very soon at the Heart of America Library. Please let us know if there is anything you wish to see at the library or if you have specific books you are looking for and wanting to read. If your organization is interested in hosting a presentation or meeting, we have meeting space available downstairs. Remember, this is YOUR library. We want to make this library the best it can be for Rugby, Pierce County.
